Sian, 26, skipped England to the gold medal in the women’s lawn bowls triples in Glasgow in July.

Worthing Mayor Vic Walker said: “Sian’s bowling skills are obviously of the very highest level but there can be no doubt in our eyes that our excellent bowling greens at Beach House Park have been a major contributing factor to her winning her Gold Medal. Well done Sian, we are very proud of you.”

Sian, a member of the Homefield Park Ladies Club, started her training aged just seven at her local club in Whitstable, representing England in the under 25 junior squad from the age of 13.

She said: “My aim after winning a Bronze in the Commonwealth Games in Delhi was obviously to bring home Gold and on home soil. I still can’t believe I did just that.

“It is an honour to receive this high accolade. Worthing should be very proud of their excellent greens.”
