‘Sneakerheads’ travel to see Adidas exhibition in Worthing store

Renowned collector of the Adidas Superstar, Andy Child, aka Mr Spite, has allowed Sneaker Lab, in Warwick Street, to showcase 45 pairs of trainers from his collection of more than 500 pairs.

Self-proclaimed ‘sneakerhead’ and store manager Dan Collins said: “The exhibition as a whole has been a real big success. Exhibitions you never really hear of. You get parties and celebrations but not the showcasing of collections.

“You get people saying we have never seen anything like this before, especially in Worthing. We have got a big following. We have had a lot of really cool people come in who have known about the exhibition.”

Titled Shells, Stripes and Soles, the exhibition coincides with the Adidas Superstar’s 45th anniversary.

Influenced by the music of the B-Boy movement and his involvement in the graffiti art scene, Spite, who is also known as the ‘Adidas Shelltoe Messiah’, began collecting in the 80s. He handpicked all the shoes appearing in the exhibition.

Sneaker Lab owner Luke Damcy was at the exhibition’s opening earlier this month.

He said: “It’s fantastic. There was quite a big crowd of sneakerheads and trainer aficionados. It was a bit like a party. We had people spilling out into the street.”

The exhibition concludes next Friday.
