Sompting church’s youth work earns second award

HIGH standards of care for young people at Sompting United Reformed Church have been officially acknowledged.

The Child Friendly Church Re-Award was presented yesterday by Ruth White, children and youth development officer for the Wessex Synod.

Her role is to ensure church leaders are encouraged, enabled and effective in their work with children and young people.

The presentation was made to children and young leaders at the church, in Cokeham Lane, as part of the Harvest Festival service.

Sheila Dyer, youth elder, said: “This was a very special occasion. The award acknowledges the high standard of provision for children and young people in the church, from the toddlers club to the teenage group, and the welcome shown to families. The award is valid for three years and this is our second award.”

Ruth also led the lively harvest service, with music provided by her husband Marcus, percussion, a video and storytelling.

Their young daughter, Jemima, helped by controlling the projection of images from a laptop,

Sheila added: “It was a real family occasion.”
