Sompting woman hospitalised following assault

A 31-YEAR-OLD woman was taken to Worthing Hospital with head injuries after she was allegedly dragged from her vehicle and attacked.

The Sompting woman was assaulted by by a 19-year-old man and 20-year-old woman in West Street, Sompting on Thursday, January 25 at around 5.50pm.

The victim was allegedly dragged from her silver Vauxhall Zafira by a man who was driving a black Renault Clio. This man then threw her to the ground. She was also pushed by a woman who was a passenger in the Renault Clio. The victim’s car was also damaged in the attack.

PC Sarah Masters said: “This was a frightening ordeal for the victim and her four young children who were in the car at the time of the attack and witnessed their mother being assaulted. The woman has since been discharged from hospital and is receiving support from investigating officers.

“I would like to appeal to any other drivers who witnessed the attack or saw either of the cars prior to the incident to please call 101 quoting serial 1304 of 25/1 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

A 19-year-old man from Portslade and 20-year-old woman fron Southwick were arrested shortly after the incident on suspicion of assault and criminal damage. They have both been bailed until February 16 and 17 respectively.
