South Pacific trip of a lifetime

A keen photographer is celebrating his 40th birthday with a “trip-of-a-lifetime” to a tiny island in the South Pacific - a journey that he has been planning for 10 years.

Baz Diprose, 39, from Rustington, flies out to Easter Island on February 5 and plans to spend much of his time snapping the island’s famous “moai” statues.

He began planning the trip on his 30th birthday and he will spend his 40th – on February 10 – on the island.

Baz, who works as a salon manager in Bath Place, Worthing, also runs a small photography business, Chop Photography, but the main goal of the trip is to realise his long-term ambition.

He said: “From the day of my 30th birthday, I knew I was going to do this.

“I love the fact that when I tell people I’m going to Easter Island they don’t know where it is but as soon as I
mention the statues, they instantly know what I’m talking about.”
