Southwick and Lancing to take part in UK wide beach clean

SURFERS Against Sewage is calling for beach lovers to join them at 150 autumn beach cleans across the UK including Southwick and Lancing.

During the week of November 2 to 8, the action group is hoping to rally more than 3,500 volunteers to tackle marine litter head on.

All autumn beach cleans are being led by a local lead volunteer, and the action group is calling on coastal communities to support these volunteers and head down to help remove over 15 tonnes of rubbish from the tidelines and recycle over 10,000 plastic bottles and cans.

Each autumn UK beach lovers brace themselves for the inevitable mass accumulation of marine litter.

The combined effects of £8m items of litter entering the oceans each day, the ever strengthening North Atlantic hurricane season, and the end of seasonal beach clean operations lead to a ‘perfect storm’ of marine litter at our beaches.

The beach clean on Lancing seafront will take place on Saturday, November 7, and Southwick on Sunday, November 8.
