Special road show for Worthing residents held by county council

RESIDENTS had the chance to find out more about the work and challenges being faced by the county council in a specially organised event last Wednesday.

The West Sussex County Council Budget Road Show took place at the Chatsworth Hotel, in Steyne Gardens, Worthing, before the meeting of the county local committee.

Council representatives, including deputy leader Lionel Barnard, were on hand to answer questions posed by a small group of attendees.

Top of the agenda was explaining that the council was facing significant cuts in Government support – totalling over £140 million.

Mr Barnard said the event was a worthwhile exercise, with a number of residents raising valid concerns.

He said: “A lot of people are concerned about adult care, which is something we have taken on board.

“At the moment, efficiency is the name of the game across the board, and we want to get across that we are not necessarily doing the cheapest options but looking for the most efficient.

“With these events, we are trying to explain to people exactly what is going on and what we are planning to do about it.”

The road show was one of a series of events which have been organised by the county council across the region.
