Special service

Almost 100 local people attended a Remembrance Service in Aldwick.

This was the first time Aldwick Parish Council had arranged a ceremony to enable local people to pay respect and honour the war dead.

It was held in the Millennium Gardens Pryors Green complex. The welcome and prayers were said by Mr David Makepeace from the Aldwick Free Church. The poppy wreath was laid by the chairman of Aldwick Parish Council Mrs Carol Wiseman.

The last post was sounded by Lt Peter Clerke of the Salvation Army. The Exaltation was given by Mr Dennis Windebank of the Aldwick branch of the British Legion, the Standard Bearer lowered the flag and a two minutes silence was observed.

It is hoped that this ceremony will become a tradition for the parish of Aldwick.
