Special spaces inspire Angmering pupils to pray and play

Pupils of St Margaret’s CE Primary School, Angmering, were encouraged to explore different and creative ways of praying during the week-long initiative.

The whole school took part, except for year-six children who were away on a residential trip, freeing up their classrooms to be converted for the week by teachers.

There were cushions and comfortable chairs where pupils could sit quietly, and other areas to be creative with modelling clay or other ways of making things.

“We wanted the children to think about different ways of praying, and what to pray about,” said year-one teacher April Martin, who helped to set up the spaces.

“My own class was very excited about going in there and they have been experiencing it on different levels. Many have been writing their own prayers, and there have been lots of thank-you prayers or children praying for members of their family or their friends,” added Mrs Martin.

The week was held just before the school, in Arundel Road, broke up for the summer holidays.
