Sponsored walk for diabetes research foundation

LABOUR'S parliamentary candidate for Bexhill and Battle MP, James Royston, teamed up with local campaigners to raise funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Over 1,000 was raised for the charity through a sponsored walk organised by Sidley-based Daniela Magnoni, who has been trying to raise awareness of the impact of diabetes on young people.

Around 20 people took part in the walk along Bexhill seafront, which started at the Sovereign Light Caf, passed the clock tower and De La Warr Pavilion, and ended at Galley Hill.

James said he was moved to get involved in the walk after meeting Daniela, who showed him the daily routine faced by diabetic children:

"I've seen the impact that diabetes can have on children, so was only too pleased to get involved in the walk. It was a great chance to raise much needed cash, but also to increase people's awareness of how diabetes can affect children.

"I was really pleased at how interested members of the Bexhill public seemed today, and am very grateful to all those who have donated."

Daniela Magnoni, who wants to ensure more schools are aware of how they can support diabetic children, said:

"I'm delighted that we had such a good turnout, and particularly pleased at James' efforts to raise awareness of this issue. The hundreds of pounds we've raised will make a real difference to the charity.

"My own son has diabetes, and is lucky enough to have a teacher who is fully-trained to handle all his equipment - but this is not guaranteed in all schools."
