Sports fan celebrates 100th with Skype call to son

Dorothy Killick, a resident of Avon Manor Care Home, in Manor Road, Worthing, turned 100 last Wednesday.

She was visited by family members who brought along a tablet so Dorothy could speak to her son Barry who lives in Florida with his wife Judy.

Barry, 74, said: “It’s fantastic that technology allows me to see my mother at 100. This is great, and she’s looking great – I think I have her genes.”

Dorothy’s other two children Pat Walker, 66, of Garrick Road, Worthing, and Robin Killick, 70, of Glynde Close, Ferring, were with her in person, as was mayor of Worthing Bob Smytherman and mayoress Norah Fisher.

Mr Smytherman said: “It’s great to be here with all of Dorothy’s family to celebrate her birthday.”

Michelle Gerrish, senior carer at Avon Manor, said Dorothy was ‘very feisty’ and had fought back from illness just before Christmas.

She added that Dorothy was ‘absolutely adorable’.

When asked what she thought her mum’s secret was Pat said Dorothy had always liked sport and used to do a lot of running, and had never smoked.
