Springfield pupils go on ‘une bonne journée’

PUPILS at a Worthing school went on ‘une bonne journée’ when they took part in a French Day.

Children at Springfield First School, in Sackville Road, dressed up for the day, with a focus on red, blue and white, the colours of Le Tricolor, the French flag.

The many activities prvodided during the day included boule, singing French songs andlearning new French words and sentences.

The children also studied aspects of French history and culture.

They were given a food tasting session, featuring savoury and sweet treats. Among the French treats on offer were brie and camembert cheese, brioche, diabolo menthe (peppermint soda), croissant, crêpes and baguette.

Head teacher Becky Wycherley said: “All the children dressed up and spent the day enjoying many activities.

“Every class had to make a replica of the Eiffel Tower and this was judged in the final assembly.

“Mrs Spencer, our resident French teacher, co-ordinated the day and even had to visit France for the day to provide us with relevant resources!”

For boules, the children threw coloured plastic balls on a grass area, with the aim of being nearest the target. They had a hoop to mark the starting point and took it in turns to have a go.

The Eiffel Tower competition gave the children a chance to be creative. In once class, pupils drew a giant picture and filled in the details by coping a photograph of the famous landmark. Another class built a three-dimensional model of the tower and painted it in silver and black.
