COMMUNITY NEWS and NOTICES: This column will be rather short on the ground this week, with news and notices of what’s happening within our community, - but I’m putting it down to it being the height of the summer season and a great number of people are all enjoying a well deserved holiday.

New members are always warmly welcomed within this dedicated, but very friendly bowls club, regardless of whether you wish to take up the sport from new, or maybe you wish to refresh your skills or just be part of the group in a different role. The members will be delighted to make your acquaintance , so for all further information on what makes this bowls club, the popular club that it is, and what’s on for the rest of the season, please contact Eve on 01580~830107 or via her email at [email protected]

MOBILE LIBRARY SERVICE: Trundling along our country lanes, once more this week, will be the very welcome sight of the Mobile Library Service little van. Halfway through the afternoon, it will arrive in Cricketers Field, Staplecross, at 1.40pm on Thursday August 13th. It will then depart at 2.10pm for it’s next stop within our parish which will be Cripps Corner. It will arrive here at 2.20pm and then depart at 2.45pm for it’s last stop at Windmill Hill, before finishing for the day. This little van is always eagerly awaited by the residents, as it caters for more than ‘book lovers’. It is a vital service to all those who live in rural areas and allows those who are not able to easily make use of the branches in the towns. It also allows them access to the Internet; Audio stories; DVD’s; newspapers and other bulletins and has many other vital uses. Libraries are more than just books, -- so please continue to ‘Use it or Lose it’.

CHURCH SERVICES: Church services for the Parish of Ewhurst will commence at St. James the Great, Ewhurst Green on Sunday August 9th. Trinity 10. at 9.30.am. This service will include Holy Communion (BCP) There will be NO SERVICE held today at St. Giles church, Bodiam, but a Morning Praise service will be held directly after at St. Mark’s church, Northiam Road, Staplecross at 11.15am.
