Staplecross

Rother Ramblers appear to have slowed down on the number of planned strolls around our beautiful part of the world, as only two walks are scheduled for this week. Be that as it may, they still promise to be both delightful and interesting walks as they always appear to be. The first walk is another of those delightful evening strolls but which, sadly, will be the last one for 2014 and is planned for Wednesday August 6th.This will be a mere 5 mile Lamberhurst to Kilndown circular and those interested in taking part will be meeting up in the car park in the centre of Lamberhurst (SatNavTN38DB) at 6.30pm. This walk may be just the right one for you to try out, if you have been thinking of joining in on one of these walks, - not too far or too strenous to begin with and dogs are permitted to walk with you, as usual. Drinks and crisps are suggested at The Globe in Kilndown,- very sociable. The ‘walk leaders’ are Rita & Lionel, so please telephone them for any further details on: 01424~752452. Walk no:2 is arranged for Saturday August 9th and is another short stroll, but this time it’s closer to the sea and is another 5 mile circular, rambling around the Coombe Haven area. Those interested in joining in on this walk should meet up with the other like-minded walkers at 10.30am in the public car park behind the Garden Centre in Bexhill Road, St. Leonards.(SatNavTN388BD) There will be a short refreshment break during this ramble and of course your four footed pals may accompany you. Tim is the ‘walk leader’ on this occasion so please contact him on 01424~272459 for more details.

I can’t believe that it’s time for our Mobile Library and all the super services it offers, to once more meander around our little lanes delivering and collecting books, audio tapes, internet information etc.and muc, h much more. Sadly, it does look like we will be having a reduced service sometime in the near future, but we can all still enjoy the many pleasures, help and information that this little van and the staff provide until such time as these changes come into force. Arriving on Thursday August 7th at Cripps Corner in the car park of the White Hart Inn between 10.15am and 10.40am it will, via Sedlescombe, arrive in Staplecross, at Cricketer’s Field between 11.50am and 12.20pm. After serving the community there, the Mobile Library will meander through Brede, Northiam and Bodiam, to arrive at it’s final destination of the day at Ewhurst Green between 3.40pm and 4.10pm. Please do continue to make use of any or all of the facilities that this wonderful service offers. You’ll be pleasantly surprised at just what is inside the doors of this little Mobile Library.

A gentle reminder that on Saturday August 9th. there will be an ‘Art Workshop’ taking place at the Village Hall, Northiam Road, Staplecross. - Specialising in painting flowers, this ‘One Day Workshop’ is sure to suit all levels from the absolute beginners who have never held a paint brush before to those who wish to improve their techniques and talent. Our local art tutor, Hilary Ganly, who is arranging this session, will be on hand to help guide you through all aspects of this fascinating and absorbing craft from the very first stroke of your brush to the finished article, when you sign your name!. Hilary will make sure you go home at the end of the day, with a painting you can be proud of, but of much more importance, the immense satisfaction of knowing~ ‘You did this’ ~ The ‘feel-good factor for this achievement alone is immeasurable and will last forever. The workshop will run between 10am and 4pm and for all further details of what is involved, please telephone Hilary on 01580~830704. One word of warning though, ~ this form of activity can be addictive,! so join in and have a wonderful day creating your own master-piece.--- May I also remind anyone and everyone, of a very special appeal for paintbrushes and acrylic paints,? - all for a very special cause, I may add. The reason for this plea is that Hilary will be flying out to Romania during the early part of August as part of a small multi-national voluntary organisation of artists that teach a large number of deprived children, mostly orphans, the joy and pleasure of painting. Each day, these children with their tutors will go off in small groups out into the local countryside to paint whatever they see.and naturally, artistic materials are always in short supply, as not so long ago, ALL forms of culture was banned and so these workshops are a way of re-vitalising lost strands of creativity as well as re-establishing their heritage and history. So please, if you have any art materials, unloved and/or unwanted, left over from long ago or maybe you may have some just lurking in a cupboard or drawer waiting to be put to good use, well this appeal will promise to do just that. These art materials, insignificant on their own perhaps, but so important to the success of these workshops, will make such a difference to the lives of these deprived children. Hopefully these workshops, so thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated by all who attend will encourage them to continue expressing themselves through the portals of art, and by donating any paintbrushes or acrylic paints, you will certainly have encouraged them in taking those first steps to do so. Hilary will be pleased and grateful to collect anything you may have, at your convenience, so again please do contact her on 01580~830704. - and on behalf of all the children and all those involved......Thank You.
