Stars shine at annual Herald & Gazette community awards

Hundreds of people have turned out to see this year’s Community Stars honoured.

The fourth, annual Herald & Gazette Community Stars awards were held at Worthing’s Dome Cinema this afternoon (Sunday, December 9).

Hosted again by television personality Fred Dinenage, the awards celebrate the area’s unsung heroes.

More than 100 people were nominated, and more than 3,000 votes were cast to determine the winners.

The full list of winners was as follows:

• Best friend: Carol Steel

• Best school: Orchards Middle

• Best volunteer: James Down

• Mini heroes: Olivia Miller, Emily Bunce and Holly Dwyer

• Health heroes: Dr Charles Shlosberg

• Best shop/worker: Terry Coal

• Carer of the year: Barry Heather

• Art and entertainment: Seaside Hospital Radio

• Sporting achievement: Tina Cook

• Animal magic: Ella Griffiths

• Charity of the year: Freddysmile

• Parent/grandparent of the year: Lorna Pannell

• True inspiration: Emma Neno

• Star of the community: David Hunt
