Stay warm, save energy

LEWES District Council is urging local residents to save energy and contribute to sustainability, while still keeping their homes warm.

The council has provided most of the homes it rents to tenants with insulated cavity walls and roofs, efficient, controllable heating systems and double glazed windows.

The council is also supporting the use of energy efficiency measures like long-life light bulbs, which use around four times less energy than normal ones and last up to 10 years.

The bulbs are fitted to council-owned homes and have also been handed out by maintenance officers to eligible tenants on benefit.

Financial assistance is also available to Lewes district residents who wish to improve their home energy efficiency by renewable means like solar panels and wind turbines.

Home repairs grants are also on offer for qualifying applicants.
