Storrington road to close over two weekends

WORK to make a Storrington road more resilient to flooding is underway.

West Sussex County Council is spending £153,000 to improve the drainage system serving A283 the road to the east of the village.

Two-way traffic lights have been in place on the A283 since work began on January and the road will be closed for two weekends this month.

It will shut from 6am on Saturday February 15 to 5am on Monday February 17 and from 6am on Saturday February 22 to 5am on Monday February 24.

A signed diversion for road-users will be in place for both closures.

County Council Deputy Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, John O’Brien, said: “Flooding has caused problems for the road and for residents living near the A283 and we are determined to make improvements here.

“Unfortunately to install this drainage system, we have to shut the road on two separate occasions at weekends.”

The project is expected to be completed by early March.
