Stranded boat is no more

A BOAT which had been left high and dry on Shoreham Beach for three weeks has gone to the great shipyard in the sky.

The 28ft pleasure boat, owned by Lancing man Dean Fuller, was blown ashore by strong winds in early March.

Dean had been sailing along the Shoreham coast when the engine cut out, and the boat '“ named Lenka '“ was left stuck on the shingle off Beach Road, Shoreham Beach.

Last week, the Herald told how Dean had been desperately trying to get his boat off the beach, using winches to move it closer to the sea.

The 1930s boat had been battered by the elements since being left stranded.

On Thursday, an attempt to float it failed and the boat was left damaged beyond repair.

Speaking to the Herald this week, Dean said: "The boat died, I am afraid. Unfortunately, it didn't float '“ it fell to bits. I have spent days chopping it up with a chainsaw."
