Student banned from driving

A STUDENT was banned from driving for 12 months at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

Charlie Jackson, 19, of Cowfold Road, Bolney, pleaded guilty to drink-driving. Mr Jackson was driving his red Skoda Octavia in Brighton Road, Worthing, at 2.20am on April 26, when police noticed him struggling to reverse out of an alleyway near Bar 10. They then watched as he stopped at a green light, before they pulled him over. Mr Jackson had 84 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood – the legal limit is 80 microgrammes.

Mr Jackson, who is studying music and German at Royal Holloway, University of London, said: “My girlfriend was out in Worthing. I think she might have been spiked and I was concerned about her. It was an error of judgement and I went to pick her up.”

In addition to his ban, chairman Liz Goodwin ordered Mr Jackson to pay a total of £215.
