Students volunteered in a host of local venues from the Worthing Churches Homeless Project to St Barnabas House, to clearing up the local beach, hospital gardens and the local nursery school.

The Academy had guest journalists in from ‘The New Internationalist’ Magazine and explored education around the world through inspirational workshops and watching a documentary about the life of Malala Yousafzai.

Students went on trips to explore local wildlife and heritage, as well as appreciating the wider world. Trips included: Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, Hever Castle in Kent and locally to the lifeboat station in Shoreham.

The Performing Arts Department took their Annual Tour this year to Lake Garda, Italy and for the second year running, a group of Year Seven and Year Eight students went camping at Broadstone Warren Scout campsite.

Alison said: “Thank you so much. You were amazing! I had a great time!”

‘Enable Me’ gave sharp insights to life for the disabled in the community, and included a game of wheelchair hockey.

Prior to each school Chapter taking part in these activities, the whole school joined together for the Annual Sponsored South Downs Walk from the Academy up to Cissbury Ring and back, which raised money for each Chapter charity.

At the end of Activities Week, when asked to sum up how the week had affected them, one student spoke for all when she said “We should all be more like Malala!”
