Jane Andrews, a maths teacher at The Littlehampton Academy, was teary-eyed when student Erica Fuller opened her GCSE results on Thursday morning and received an A* in maths.

Erica, 16, said: “It’s better than I expected. Maths has always been my subject and I really wanted to get it for miss. She’s put so much effort in this year, she looked as emotional as I did.”

Miss Andrews added: “She was only predicted an A and she pulled it out the bag. I’m shaking. I was really nervous looking at the results this morning. It’s amazing.”
