Ray Yeo, of Sea Lane, Goring, died in February after he fell from a ladder and suffered a serious head injury.

Despite being airlifted to St George’s Hospital, in Tooting, London, Ray eventually succumbed to his injury, leaving behind his wife, Jill and their three children, Sean, Steve and Sarah.

Now, his long-time friend, Steve Dunlop, has teamed up with his buddy, Jason Neith and Ray’s boys, to cycle about 120 miles from Ray’s home to St George’s and back – completing the journey home that Ray never managed.

Steve, 46, of The Haven, in Littlehampton, said: “Ray was one of those larger-than-life characters. He would do anything for anybody and always had a smile on his face. He left a big hole in so many people’s lives that’s unfillable. Everyone needs a Ray in their lives.”

The team will begin their challenge on Saturday (August 15), at 6am, and will be raising cash for the Sussex Air Ambulance.

So far, they have already generated about £5,000 for the charity – ten times the target Steve had initially set.

“We just can’t believe how generous people have been,” the motor technician from Park Crescent Garage, in Worthing said. “We just wanted to do something for the air ambulance because you never know when you’ll need their help.

The team hope to complete the journey in about eight hours.
