Worthing Prince’s Trust Team 12 is getting in on the act, with ‘teamies’ at the sponge toss and tombola fundraising event they held in Worthing town centre last week.

The unemployed 16 to 25-year-olds raised £236.85 towards activities for the homeless and elderly. The aim is to take a group from Worthing Churches Homeless Projects bowling and to deliver activities for elderly residents at Rosemary Mount care home, in Chesswood Road, East Worthing.

The team has also been supporting a project at Heene Community Centre, raising £430, including a £100 donation from Barclays. They used the money to buy paint and garden materials, then spent two weeks painting the centre and turfing, edging and planting the garden.

A celebration event will be held on Thursday, July 23, when Worthing mayor and mayoress Michael Donin and Linda Williams will be present certificates marking the team’s outstanding achievements.

The young people who have completed the team programme are now applying for a range of jobs, apprenticeships and college courses.

Indi Plummer, Prince’s Trust assistant, said: “The team programme really works by giving young people the skills, confidence and motivation to find a job.”
