Bryony Brookman, 13, of Radnor Road, Worthing, entered the Teen Star UK contest in the 13- to 15-year-old category and made it through the audition to the regional finals.

Despite not winning this stage of the contest, she got a second chance when the public were asked to vote for a ‘wildcard’ artist to progress to the national Grand Final.

Bryony, who goes to Durrington High School, won the popular vote and now has a shot at the prize on July 7.

She said: “When I got the news I was so shocked and really excited.”

Mum Miranda, 39, was bursting with pride at her daughter’s achievement.

She said: “I’m so proud I can hardly breathe and my cheeks hurt from smiling so much!”

Bryony started singing at an early age, winning her first contest at the age of three while on holiday on the Isle of Wight.

She is currently a member of a girl band called The Luvettes.
