He is decribed as 40-50 years old, 6ft tall with short grey hair and was wearing a red t-shirt, blue jeans and brown boots.

The man ran south down Elgin Road when he saw a woman and young boy walking nearby.

Detective Sergeant Alex Lowe said; “This is an isolated incident and not part of a local pattern, but we are taking it seriously and ask for any witnesses or anyone who may know the identity of the man to get in touch with us as soon as possible.

“The suspect would have stood out as he was wearing only a T-shirt on what was a very cold morning.”

“In particular we’d like to speak to the woman with the young boy. They may not have realised what was happening but could still be valuable witnesses.”

The girl was shaken but unhurt.

Anyone who can help is asked call Sussex Police on 0845 60 70 999 quoting Incident 640 of 6 December.

Police officers and PCSOs are increasing patrols in the area and police are liaising with the local schools to ensure pupils continue to receive basic safety advice.
