They are believed to have left on foot before walking along St Michael’s Place, police said.

Police described three of the men as being of mixed race, one with a puffer style jacket with a hood and one was wearing jeans and a T-shirt. The fourth man was white, wearing a blue tracksuit and black hat.

Detective Sergeant Simon Dunn said: “This was a violent incident but it is believed the people involved are all known to each other.

“If you saw something suspicious in the area either before or after the attack, we would like to hear from you.”
