Urgent talks have been sought by Worthing Borough Council with Hanson Capital Management to see if a £2million payment for developer contributions can be met.

The funds, often paid to councils by firms taking-on major projects, would give the green light for the £150million scheme to begin. The council says a verbal agreement on the fee was made last summer but the final documents have not been signed by Hanson.

Cabinet member for regeneration Bryan Turner said: “We have cut them a bit of slack with the recession and the fact there has not been any major developments taking place outside the M25.

“But with confidence returning to the economy and improving investment it’s about time we should be seeing more activity from them.”

He added: “It has been verbally agreed. We just want them to finally sign it. We are very frustrated.”
