That is the view of Anthony Pickthall, of Adur and Worthing Councils, who has nominated general manager, Amanda O’Reilly, in the business personality category of the awards.

He said: “Amanda has worked hard over the past two years to transform the venues, staffing, programming and customer service.

“We believe this has been down to Amanda’s strong leadership, creative ambition and sheer determination to give Worthing the cultural entertainment it deserves.”

The theatres, which include the Assembly Hall, Connaught Theatre and Studio and Worthing Pavilion, have seen more sell-outs than ever before.

Mr Pickthall added: “In 2014 ,the hard work is paying off, with more sell-outs than ever before and a stronger cultural offer.

“In addition, Amanda has worked hard to help lead the development of the new local cultural partnership, Commit to Culture.”

The theatres employ 120 members of staff, who work to attract high-profile names to the town.

One of its main aims is to lead the regeneration of Worthing’s reputation as a cultural hot-spot, and promote it regionally, nationally and internationally.

Mr Pickthall said: “We programme the most exciting events from around the UK for Worthing in a way that is sensitive to the town’s context.

“We collaborate with national and local organisations to realise a programme that makes Worthing a great place for quality entertainment.
