Three courses for a fiver at Little Common restaurant

THE WHEATSHEAF in Little Common may have been a pub for around a hundred years and from the outside, to many, it may still appear to be one, but appearances can be deceiving as it's now a fabulous restaurant serving delicious recession busting meals.

And there's no need to tighten the belt on a night out at the Wheatsheaf either as three courses start at just a fiver (for the Wednesday and Thursday night theme menu).

It's hard to imagine that it's possible to make a profit at these prices but owner and chef Dennis Brazil and partner Karen Kennedy say that's not the case.

Dennis said: "We make ninety percent of what we serve and can make it for a quarter of the price of what it would cost to buy in. The cost is in the time and effort really, rather than from buying in frozen products."

Dennis and Karen, have put in a lot of hard work in the three years since they took over, transforming the former public house into the stunning restaurant that it is today.

Dennis, a chef for the past twenty years, said:

"We could see pubs were going through difficult times, and we thought this area was crying out for an English restaurant that served good plain and simple food."

He added:

"We wanted to turn the Wheatsheaf into something nice for the area and we think we have the whole package now '“ nice surroundings, good food and reasonable prices.

"People are looking out for bargains at the moment, and we do offer value for money. Our current offers are permanent up to Christmas and then we'll do something different in the New Year."

A selection from the menus include starters of coronation chicken, carpaccio of pineapple with strawberry, and sardine pate, mains of sirloin steaks, pastas, breaded scampi and roasts of the day, a range of delicious desserts include coffee and walnut tart, shortcake & strawberry mousse sundae and summerfruit pudding.

Karen said those who regularly support them have to take credit for some of the restaurants success:

"We're very lucky with the people who come though our door. Our customers are fantastic and they all dress up for the occasion."
