A petition urging Worthing Borough Council to take control of the town’s parking has been set up by a shop owner.

Paul O’Brien, owner of Candy Love, in Montague Street, believes councillors are not committed enough to taking back control of the NCP car parks.

He posted the idea on Facebook and received widespread support from the public and other businesses.

Paul said: “I might be completely wrong, but I don’t think enough is being done to tackle parking. It’s the main gripe of all my customers, they would rather go out to places like Brighton.

“They would rather pay the money to travel just because the parking is much cheaper.”

The NCP parking contract ends in 2014.

As reported in the Herald last week, Worthing Borough Council is considering a number of options, in response to a number of complaints about the issue.

But Paul said the council needs to take control of the issue for the good of local businesses.
