Traffic calming plan is ‘shifting problem’

Durrington Hill is in line for roadworks to stop speeding drivers using it as a rat run during heavy traffic on the A27.

But Exmoor Drive residents say they were never consulted on the plans, which they believe will see motorists using their road instead of Durrington Hill.

Brian Thatcher, 76, of Exmoor Drive, Worthing, said a public meeting two weeks ago was the first they had heard of the plans.

He said: “We were never consulted about these plans.

“We are not against Durrington Hill having traffic calming measures but they can’t leave us out of it.

“Instead of speeding down Durrington Hill, they will now go down our road or Ivydore Avenue. It’s just shifting the problem.”

Mr Thatcher said he had his own ideas to solve the problem, having driven ‘over a million miles’, but they had not been listened to.
