Commuters on the 06.29 train from Littlehampton to London Bridge faced delays after two passengers threw coffee over each other in a row over a first-class seat.

As a result the train was half an hour late as British Transport Police became involved, and was terminated early at Gatwick Airport.

A Southern Rail spokesman said: “We can confirm that there was a disturbance in one of the First Class accommodation areas on the 06.29 Littlehampton to London Bridge service at Hove on Monday morning.

“The Police were called and took the people concerned off the train to talk to them. We not aware of the outcome of this interaction.

“As a result of this incident, the train was 28 minutes late leaving Hove station and to ensure the timetable was not disrupted by a very late train arriving in London, the train was terminated at Gatwick Airport, where passengers boarded alternative London Bridge services.”
