A27 closure: Four fire engines attend Southwick Tunnel crash

Four fire engines were called to a crash in the Southwick Tunnel on the A27.

The eastbound carriageway is shut and is likely to stay closed for some time due to the crash and a fuel leak, police said.

A fire service spokesman said crews from Shoreham, Worthing, Hove and Brighton were called to the scene at 1.22pm but confirmed no one was trapped in the vehicle.

He added: “They used an environment agency pack [to tackle the fuel spill]. SECAmb were in attendance and the vehicle is on its roof.”

Fire crews left the scene at 3.22pm.

Sussex Roads Police have now confirmed the injured driver and all vehicles have now been removed from the road.

But the road remains closed while the fuel spill is cleared up which is likely to take some time, police said.

The ambulance service (SECAmb) has been approached for comment.
