Arson and flooding among West Sussex firefighters’ calls

HERE are just some of the incidents attended by West Sussex firefighters from Friday, February 3, to today (Monday, February 6).

Friday, February 3, 1.39pm to 2.03pm:

House in Grand Avenue, Worthing – water coming from loft affecting first and ground floor of house. Electricity and water supply isolated by a crew from Worthing.

Friday, February 3, 5.30pm to 6.20pm:

Flats in South Terrace, Littlehampton – flooding coming from above flat into hallway of building. Water and electricity isolated by a crew from Littlehampton. Salvage carried out on one flat.

Heene Road, Worthing – fence panel on fire. Arsonists blamed, one crew from Worthing in attendance.

Friday, February 3, 7.33pm to 7.47pm:

House in Vale Walk, Findon Valley – water coming from burst pipe in ceiling of unoccupied bungalow. Water and electricity supply isolated by Worthing crew.

Friday, February 3, 11.28pm to 11.54pm:

Mid-terrace house, in Henry Street, Bognor – fire involving dishwasher and kitchen units. Around 30 per cent of kitchen damaged by fire and 70 per cent by heat. 100 per cent of house damaged by smoke. Crew from Bognor in attendance.

Saturday, February 4, 4.20am to 5.53am:

Clifton Gardens, Worthing – Garages set on fire. Arsonists blamed for the blaze. Two Worthing crews in attendance.

House in North Lane, South Harting – Fire, building heavily smoke-logged. 25 per cent of house severely damaged by fire, 25 per cent of first floor damaged by heat and smoke, 10 per cent of roof space damaged by fire and smoke. Crews from Midhurst, Chichester, Petersfield and Bognor in attendance.

Saturday, February 4, 2.51pm to 3.43pm:

House, in East Street, West Chiltington – flooding caused by internal burst pipe. Water and electrics isolated by Worthing crew and advice given to occupier.

Saturday, February 4, 5.30pm to 6.06pm:

Unoccupied house, in Downlands Avenue, Broadwater – Flooding caused by burst water pipe in loft of house. Water and electrics isolated by Worthing crew. Minor damage to adjacent house.

Saturday, February 4, 10.30pm to 11.04pm:

A29 at Slindon – Crash involving one car on its side in the undergrowth. One man and one woman released by firefighters. Crews from Billingshurst and Horsham in attendance. Incident left with police.

Ground floor flat, in Cawley Road, Chichester – Accidental fire in flat. Damaged items removed by Chichester crew.
