Commuters warned of rush hour rail delays between Brighton and Worthing

A points failure at Hove is set to cause disruption to rail services between Brighton and Worthing until 7pm tonight (September 24).

Points are movable sections of track, allowing trains to move from one line to another.

A spokesperson for Southern Rail said: “Southern have been advised that a set of points at Hove has failed, which is preventing access for trains into and out of Platform 3. Due this area only having two lines of track available, this severely limits the ability to move trains through the area and quickly causes congestion to form into and out of Brighton along the West Coastway.

“Points are moveable sections of track enabling trains to cross from one line to another. When these fail, the train is unable to continue, as the route will be set towards the incorrect direction.

“A points failure at Hove means some lines are blocked. Trains between Brighton and Worthing may be cancelled, delayed or revised.

“We anticipate disruption will continue until 7pm.”

Southern said Brighton and Hove passengers could use their tickets on bus services between Brighton and Shoreham-By-Sea.
