The news comes after recent increases in pay-and-display charges in the town, which came into effect on July 1 and range between 20p and £1.90 for county council parking spaces in Eastbourne.

An East Sussex County Council spokesman said, “We are carrying out preparation work ahead of the introduction of parking restrictions in Old Orchard Road, Furness Road and Saffrons Road and parking has been suspended in some areas to allow contractors access.

“The new restrictions were proposed in the annual review of parking in Eastbourne and were the subject of a formal consultation at the end of last year.

“Preparation work was due to take place in March following planning approval, but was postponed due to the covid-19 pandemic.”
