Police name lorry driver killed in A27 crash
The lorry driver who died in a crash which closed the A27 around Chichester for several hours has been named by police.
David Ifould, 55, of Hawke Close, Andover, died at the scene after his Mercedes-Benz lorry was in collision with a skip loader just west of the Fishbourne Roundabout on Thursday, October 13, police said.
The collision happened at around 2.20pm and saw a huge response from the emergency services.
The lorry driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver of the Volvo skip loader, a 44-year-old man from Hayling Island, sustained minor injuries and was treated at St Richard’s Hospital in Chichester, according to Sussex Police.
The fatal crash saw the A27 closed in both directions for several hours, with every road around and through Chichester at a complete standstill until later that evening.
Sussex Police is appealing for witnesses to the collision, and in particular is asking for people who have any dash-cam footage to come forward as officers continue to investigate.
Anyone who can help is asked to contact the Sussex Serious Collision Investigation Unit at [email protected], or telephone 101, quoting Operation Anglican.
