Shoreham lifeboat launched to search for missing man in Lancing

The Shoreham RNLI lifeboat was launched yesterday evening to search for a missing man at Lancing who may have gone into the water, a spokesman said.

The Shoreham Coastguard, Littlehampton Coastguard and Sussex Police were also called to assist.

However the man was found ‘OK ashore’, the RNLI spokesman confirmed.

Shoreham Coastguard said: “Team tasked with Littlehampton Coastguard and Shoreham Lifeboat RNLI to support Sussex Police with person near waters edge.

Police officer assisted person to safe position.”

A spokesman from Littlehampton Coastguard said: “The team were tasked to reports of a missing person on Lancing Beach.

“Shortly after arriving on scene the Police made contact with the person.

“After some time chatting he agreed to come off the beach and was given transport back to his accommodation.

“All units stood down once Sussex Police had left the scene.”
