THERE are currently major delays on the A27 at Shoreham after an accident on the east side of the Southwick Tunnel.
Firefighters from Shoreham were called to the scene of the accident by East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service shortly after 5.10pm today (Friday, July 1).
Two cars and a horsebox had been involved in the crash and two people were taken to hospital by ambulance.
It is not known if there were any horses in the horsebox but a West Sussex Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said cattle had been involved.
Crews from Shoreham spent almost two hours at the scene and helped a farmer to get the cattle into a trailer.
The road is closed between the Holmbush and Devil’s Dyke exits in both directions, with traffic almost stationery for a mile before the Holmbush exit on the east-bound carriageway.
Herald reporter Sheena Campbell said: “It took me an hour to get from the flyover to the Holmbush exit.”
