Police are warning youngsters of the dangers of railway lines after several children were spotted placing bottles on the tracks near a Sussex station.

British Transport Police said officers were called to the line near Crawley station at 12.45pm yesterday (Thursday August 4).

A spokesman said: “Officers from BTP were deployed and conducted a thorough area search but no one was traced.

BTP have launched a campaign urging people to stay clear of the tracks. The force has released a video showing a series of incidents involving young people trespassing on the lines.

A spokesman said: “The railway is a dangerous environment with trains travelling at high speeds – trespassing can be lethal and it is never worth the risk.”
