Travel firm sets 40 challenges for 40th anniversary
A WORTHING travel firm is celebrating 40 years in business by planning 40 different fundraising events.
Travel Places, based in Chapel Road, has set a target of £40,000, supporting a variety of charities.
The company’s big birthday ties in with a few big birthdays among staff members, inspiring the family-run firm to tackle various fundraising events over the course of the year.
The biggest challenge will be a cycle event to raise £20,000 for Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice.
Travel Places specialises in handling travel plans and event management for pro sports teams, athletes, spectators, media and businesses.
The America’s Cup, the British Paralympic team and the Volvo Ocean Race are just a few of the major sporting events with which the company is involved.
However, as Travel Places provides travel logistics for all Formula One teams based in the UK, Matt Parkhouse, a member of the F1 flights team, thought it would be best to create a challenge that was in keeping with this theme.
The Travel Places team will cycle the combined distance of all 21 F1 Grand Prix races using special static turbo training bike equipment donated by Giant Shoreham.
All staff will be involved in the joint effort to complete 6,401km over 210 working days, before the Abu Dhabi GP finishes on November 27.
Matt Warren, Travel Places director, said: “Having fundraised for Chestnut Tree House for many years, staff didn’t hesitate to sign up for the challenge.
“We are really grateful to Rod Lambert at Giant Shoreham for his generous support and advice, particularly the comfy saddle.
“We have a picture of Sir Chris Hoy on the wall to get us in the spirit and, of course, knowing that we are helping to support children with life-shortening illnesses and families across Sussex is all the encouragement we need.”
