TRAVEL WARNING: Road users urged to take extra care after Easter Monday weather warning

Road users in the south east of England are being warned to take extra care from the early hours of Easter Monday as strong winds are forecast to sweep across the area.

The Met Office has issued an amber warning for strong winds, with gusts of up to 70mph predicted across the south tomorrow (March 28).

Highways England has released a list motoroways and major A roads that may be particularly affected by these winds.

It has also warned high-sided vehicles, caravans, motorbikes and other vulnerable vehicles to take extra care when travelling due to the increased risk of vehicles being blown over.

Drivers are advised to plan ahead for their journey before they set out, checking the forecast, road conditions and to leave extra time if travel conditions are poor or to delay their journey if the weather becomes increasingly severe.

The gales will be accompanied by outbreaks of heavy rain and as a result driving conditions will be hazardous for all vehicles.

The wind strength will ease in the afternoon from the west as the low pressure area associated with Storm Katie moves into the North Sea.
