TV show inspires posh tea afternoon

The traditional high tea saw entertainment provided by the young people of St Peter’s choir.

A varied musical programme included Jelly on a Plate performed by young pianist James Annandale-Johnstone. Alicia Miles and Charlotte Thorkildsen played a duet for two cellos by Vivaldi, whilst Head Chorister Alise Jaciewicz-Gill and Lars Thorkildsen showed their singing talents by performing two solos.

Youngsters from the choir also displayed their talents for playing a wide variety of instruments.

During the interval young choir members served a scrumptious tea, carrying in cake stands which offered a wide assortment of tiny sandwiches, small scones and decorated delicate cakes.

Ruth Elias, one of the organisers, revealed that a certain TV show had gone some way towards the success of the event. Ruth said: “The recent TV Masterchef series had been an inspiration when one episode challenged the contestants to produce a mouth-watering afternoon tea menu!”

And just in case anyone still felt hungry an array of more cakes were brought in on trolleys with some visitors taking advantage of the opportunity to have a particularly ‘posh’ afternoon tea whilst sipping champagne.

Following the tea the concert continued, and was compered with wit and humour by Roger Elias.

Funds raised from the event will help towards the annual choir holiday when the choir sings in a cathedral for a week, along with enjoying many outside activities

This year the choir will be visiting Worcester Cathedral.
