TV star backing hospice

Mark, who lives locally is known for his role in the Nationwide Building Society advertisements, as well as playing Eddie in Early Doors, and Howard in Northern Lights. He also featured on Strictly Come Dancing.

Mark visited the Hospice on Upper Maze Hill on Monday August 10 to meet staff, volunteers and the people they support in Day Services, which has recently reopened following the fire.

“The Hospice is an incredible place. It really is great. You never know when you might need their services and it’s such a valuable part of our community,” said Mark.

“The Hospice offers so much and deserves all the support it can get, and I’m really pleased to be a celebrity ambassador.”

Bruni Llovet, Head of Marketing added “We are delighted to have Mark on board.

“The people we support were very excited and loved chatting with him about the dances he learnt during his time on Strictly Come Dancing.

“Mark is such a charismatic person and he makes a fantastic addition to our volunteer led ambassador team. We are extremely grateful for his time and support.”

“Mark will be supporting the Hospice at their future events, as well as visiting patients and Day Services and acting as an ambassador across Hastings and Rother.

During his visit Mark also got acquainted with Honey the dog, one of the pet volunteers used by St Michael’s Hospice for Pet/Animal Therapy.

There was more good news for the hospice this week with them being named by Hastings United Football Club as their chosen charity for the season.

United held four collections at their games, which raised £884 and held a one minute silence in solidarity for the Hospice and one minute applause in memory of David Denness, a long term Hastings United supporter, who suffered smoke inhalation during the recent fire at St Michael’s Hospice and sadly died later in hospital.

“We are incredibly grateful to Hastings United Football Club for all their continued support and fundraising and for choosing us as their charity this season. We would also like all their fans who gave so generously to support the Hospice,” said hospice Community Fundraiser Amanda Hildreth, “The money will help us provide vital care and support for people throughout Hastings and Rother.
