Two arrested after burglaries in Arun and Worthing

TWO people have been arrested after a series of burglaries in Arun and Worthing.

Police traced a car which had been reported stolen at around 7.20am today (Tuesday, September 27) in the Bognor Regis area and followed it to Glenellg Close in the town.

The car stopped in Glenellg Close and a 40-year-old woman from London, who was travelling in the vehicle, was arrested on suspicion of burglary.

The driver left the car before police arrived and stole another car which was followed by officers to Durrington Cemetery near Worthing. Police said the driver ran from the car into nearby gardens on the northside of the A27 and stole a further vehicle in Uplands Avenue, which was stopped a short time later in Mill Lane with assistance of members of the public.

The driver, a 41-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of burglary and dangerous driving.

Both remain in custody.

Detective Inspector Jim McKnight of West Sussex CID said: “We would like to thank members of the public who were inconvenienced as police followed the offenders from Bognor to Littlehampton and then on to Worthing.

“We would also like to thank the quick-thinking members of the public who assisted in blocking a vehicle in Mill Lane which led to the arrest of the driver.”

Police are linking a series of burglaries across the Arun and Worthing area overnight including burglaries in West Way in Wick, Goodacres in Barnham, South Way in Bognor Regis, Central Avenue in Bognor Regis, Roundwood in Worthing, Gravits Lane in Bognor Regis and Steele Crescent in Wick.
