Quiz Night: Refreshed by our hot fish and chip supper in the Hall last Saturday evening, nine teams, comprising 58 members, settled down to the serious business of wrestling with the quiz questions, half of them devised by Frank Langrish, half by Bob Turgoose. As the results began to appear on the screen (capably projected there by the official scorer, Fr Martin) the powerful visiting Peasmarsh team began to establish a clear lead. Scores at the end of the eighth round confirmed them as worthy winners. Lucky winners of the joints of lamb generously donated by the Langrishes had already been selected by the raffle draw earlier in the evening. Our thanks go to the Hall Management Committee for organizing this successful and most enjoyable event, which raised over £400 for Hall funds.

Church Service: This Sunday at 11.15am there will be Sung Eucharist in St Mary’s Church, followed by refreshments in the Hall.

Poetry & Prose Evening: On Saturday evening, February 28, the 5th Annual Evening of Poetry and Prose will take place in the Hall, starting at 7 for 7.15pm. These evenings have become a highly enjoyable feature of the Brede and Udimore winter programme, combining the pleasures of listening to one another’s humorous or more serious readings and tucking into a home-cooked two-course hot supper (with drinks from licensed bar) all for the slightly increased but still modest ticket price of £15. If you would like to be one of the readers, you’re invited to choose a short passage or two of your favourite poetry or prose and bring them along with you. Or you may prefer just to listen. Numbers will be necessarily limited, so to be sure of your tickets please ring Robert Wheeler (01797 222009) or Gary Marriott (01424 882412) as soon as possible, and certainly by next weekend. All proceeds from the event will again be divided between the church funds of Udimore and Brede.
