Bob Langrish: Many of you will have already heard the sad news of the recent death of Frank Langrish’s father, Bob. On page 16 you can read an account of his long and notable life, as true countryman, farmer, grazier and family man, which will be commemorated in a memorial service in Beckley Church on Thursday August 27, at 2.30pm.

Udimore Church: We are very grateful to Fr Jim Hobbs for standing in for the Rector at the Sung Family Eucharist last Sunday, and (in the absence of one of our voluntary organists) very capably leading the hymn singing himself. My apologies to anyone who turned up for Messy Church two days later. Its cancellation this month was due to holidays, which have also resulted in the cancellation of both the services in St Mary’s Church this Sunday.

Art and Faith: From 7.30 till 9pm on Wednesday (August 13) Matthew Burrows will be leading the second of his series of five meetings on this subject, in his new studio at Mill House. Matthew is an accomplished artist and speaker: in the first meeting, last month, his introductory words began to shed light on many puzzling aspects of modern art and led to some interesting discussion. This is sure to be another most informative and stimulating evening. If you would like to be there, please give Matthew a ring beforehand (07939 512423).

Burglaries: Sussex Police are keen to reduce even further the current incidence of burglaries throughout the county. One important way in which we can all help them (and ourselves) is by using the website www.immobilise.com to register details of any items of our property that are likely to be stolen, if we are unlucky enough to be burgled. This may well provide the police with evidence leading to an arrest and conviction (and the safe return of the property to us). These records are totally secure, and the service is free (and recommended by police forces around the UK).
