After lack of support for the equivalent event last winter, the organizers of last Friday’s Overseas Charities Midwinter Lunch Party in St Mary’s Community Hall were highly relieved when all fifty tickets were sold. In addition to ticket-selling, the committee and their team of helpers had already been busy behind the scenes, making the shepherds’ pies and fruit crumble (with black currants from Tibbs Farm), stocking the bar with drinks and setting up tables, chairs and everything else needed. All this contributed to the great success of the party, the substantial meal prefaced by Fr Martin’s grace, and rounded off by his distribution of a record number of generously donated raffle prizes. Besides being much enjoyed by all present, this very successful party raised £540, to be shared between the four missionary charities supported by the Brede and Udimore Overseas Group: Deaf in Tanzania, Eye Camps, Homes of Mercy in Bethany and Papua New Guinea Church Partnership.

At 11.15am this Sunday, the first in February, there will be the usual monthly Family Service for All in St Mary’s Church, after which there will be an informal social gathering, when refreshments will be served.
