A LUCKY group of young footballers had a Christmas event to remember when they met the cheerleading team at a Worthing Thunder basketball match.
The 12-year-old lads from under-13s football team Lancing Rangers Select were in for a surprise when the cheerleaders posed for a photo with them and gave them signed flyers, and even a few kisses too.
The evening started with a game of five-a-side football on the all-weather pitch at Worthing Leisure Centre, with some of the dads joining in to prove they were not all past it.
After the game the team went on to the Thunder match, where the ThunderGirls’ dance manager Vicki Stitt had organised the special surprise.
Lancing Rangers Select event co-ordinator Karen Hilton said: “Me being me, I arranged for them to meet the ThunderGirls cheerleaders - which went down so well with a group of 12-year-old boys.
“We have a great picture of the boys with the cheerleaders.
“Despite Worthing Thunder being beaten by the opposition, the boys had a great night out and went home smiling. We know for a fact they will be going back to watch Worthing Thunder, or is it the cheerleaders?”
The team, managed by Warren Venour, plays in the Arun and Chichester Football League, and this is their first season in the ‘A’ League having won promotion last season.
The picture was taken by Worthing Thunder photographer Andre Nichols.
