POWER workers were this afternoon (November 16) still attempting to restore electricity to 283 homes and businesses after a car crashed into a sub-station in Beaumont Park, Littlehampton, this morning.
A BMW estate car driven by a 23-year-old Littlehampton man left the road and demolished part of the wall of the sub-station at 10.44am.
The driver suffered only minor injuries but two high-voltage cables were badly damaged.
At the time, police were told the power from the sub-station would be switched off for at least an hour while engineers made repairs and the vehicle was recovered, leaving 1,500 UK Power Networks customers without electricity.
However, UK Power Networks said this afternoon the accident did not initially interrupt electricity supplies, although at 12.15pm engineers had to isolate some supplies in the area to make the equipment safe and carry out repairs.
A spokeswoman added: “We are working to restore power supplies to 283 customers in the area as quickly as possible.”
Police have asked anyone who saw what happened to email email@example.com or phone 101, quoting serial 441 of 16/11.
